On October 1, 2015, I left Seattle for the open road. It’s hard to believe that 365 days have passed since that first night, when wildfire drove me from a campsite. One year later, I have driven over 14,000 miles and have visited 21 states (not counting Washington, where I started, and states I merely drove through) and Mexico. Here are some of my favorite moments, memories, and photos from the last year.
Washington
Oregon
Idaho
Wyoming
Utah
Nevada
Oklahoma
Texas
New Mexico
California
Algodones, Mexico
Baja, Mexico
Arizona
Louisiana
Mississippi
Kentucky
Tennessee
Alabama
Georgia
South Carolina
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Indiana
North Carolina
A preview for the next year: Little Rock; Shreveport; Austin; The Florida Keys for the holidays: Mardi Gras in Cajun Country; the Texas Gulf Coast; the Kentucky Derby; the Bourbon Trail; and New England. Hope to see you out there on the trail!

My two favorites: the one with you and Olive at the Grand Canyon, and the then one with you walking through the sunflowers with Rocket and Pinkie. Love you t-shirt. It’s been a great year following your blog. Keep enjoying the adventure.
And to follow Debbie’s comment, I love the picture with Olive. I am also so happy to see that you have adopted two pups since. I have been out of the loop for a little while and just saw that you adopted them, or did they adopt you? Anyway, the fact that their names are Rocket and Pinkie gave me a chuckle. Over twenty years ago, I had a crazy Jack Russell named Orbit and I had a white Chihuahua for only a short time named Rocket (before I had him, he was severely abused and he had brain damage. As a result, I unfortunately had to have him put him down). I now have the best dog in the entire world, a Chihuahua named Tinkie, (rhymes with Pinkie). I’m sure you and Boss Tweed are enjoying them! I look forward to more of your adventures!
Cocoa, here’s the story of Rocket & Pinkie, adopted June 13, 2016 while I was in Mississippi!
Thank you Tammy. I am very happy for all four of you. I always say “The world would be a much happier place if everyone had a dog to love.” I look forward to all the new sights (and smells) that all of you get to encounter on your travels. I’m still home with two tweens, so I travel vicariously through you. BTW, my dog is named Tinkie because he is tiny and stinky. We also rescued a lynx point Siamese several years ago named Mrs. Maxine Fluffypants. Also, I don’t know if you have already, but check Retro Roadmap. Retro Betty and her husband travel the country because he is in a band and she has lots of information on great vintage places around the country that you don’t want to miss.
